No joshing, Raiders head coach Layne Kiffin will start Josh McCown on Sunday afternoon against the lively Indianapolis Colts for a 1:15PM kick off at the McAfee. Coliseum. McCown who got the nod over JaMarcus Russell last Sunday in Green Bay in the thwacking the Raiders took will start again against Peyton Manning and the Colts.
Not to mention McCown gets the call over Daunte Culpepper for the third straight week and a very anxious JaMarcus Russell. Culpepper still is out with a thigh injury and has missed practice for the last two weeks. Culpepper injured the quad on November 25th.
"After Daunte not being here today, that will be the plan. We'll see how Daunte come out today. Doesn't sound good. I was hoping he'd come out today after a long weekend of rest," said Kiffin.
For the last two weeks Kiffin has withheld his decision until literally the Friday before the game this time Kiffin has decided to go with McCown and let the world know it. "you have a plan, but you don't know if that plan is going to go exactly how you want, last time he played, it went perfect." said Kiffin.
Bobby Petrino's decision to join the Arkansas Razorbacks put to rest all the talk about Kiffin bailing the Raiders to join Arkansas on the shelf. Kiffin has played either dumb about any talk about leaving Oakland and going to Arkansas or he denies any such talk took place,
"I never had any contact with the University of Arkansas or any college about any job at all. I've done nothing but prepare my team for the upcoming game,” said Kiffin. “I’m coaching the Raiders and getting us ready to play. I don't have any idea where all that information came from.”
Justin Fargus the Raiders running back practiced with bruised ribs and worked out and is planning to be in the line up on Sunday against the Colts. Back up center Jake Grove missed practice on Wednesday with a sore knee.
Also resting from practice is defensive tackle Warren Sapp, left tackle Barry Sims, receiver Jerry Porter, and center Jeremy Newberry. They're all expected to be in the line up come Sunday versus the Colts.
