It was 10-10-10, so what did you expect ? The Oakland Raiders beat the San Diego Chargers 35-27 is a game with many contrasts. San Diego outgained the Raiders 506 to 279, that is almost double. The Chargers turned the ball over five times, three on fumbles and twice on blocked punts. Oakland got a safety and a touchdown from the blocked punts. Oddly, the fumbles resulted in but one Raider touchdown.

It was in a crazy game. Both Oakland quarterbacks combined for 173 yards, Philip Rovers of the Chargers threw for 431 yards.

It was a close game in many ways. The Raiders gained 111 yards on the ground compared to the Chargers 91. But Michael Bush gained 104 yards on 26 attempts. Contrast: the Chargers' Malcolm Floyd caught eight passes for 213 yards. And San Diego had the ball 32.46 to Oakland's 27.14.

Raiders head coach Tom Cable explained the reason for the blocked punts. 'We saw something on film'. It was obvious that the Raiders needed to settle old scores, they hadn't beaten the Chargers since 2003.

The game was most entertaining, what with consecutive blocked punts. How often does that happen ? There was more big plays in the first quarter than there usually happens in an entire game.

Bruce Gadkowski injured his right shoulder late in the first quarter.

In the end, this game showed how dangerous turnovers are. Reality Check: If you don't turn the ball over, you will win most football games. The less you help the other team the better.

Next year we'll see what happens on 11-11-11, if it falls on Sunday.
