Raiders play well but still lose to Texans

After the game Raiders Head Coach Tom Cable knew exactly why his team lost. The gist of it was that the Houston Texans controlled the line of scrimmage.

The Raiders permitted Texans' running back Arian Foster to gain well over 100 yards on the ground and quarterback Matt Schaub to direct a very efficient ball control passing game.

That created an advantage for the Texans that the Raiders just could not overcome.

The Raiders didn't help their cause, either. On the third play of the game, Raider quarterback Burce Gradkowski fumbled when sacked. The Raiders punted and the Texans marched 90 yards in six plays to make it 7-0.

It was tied at 14 at the half. On the second play of the third quarter Arian Foster ran off tackle for 74 yards to make it 21-14. So quick the stadium was stunned.

It went to 24-14 on the first play of the fourth quarter. Schaub hit Foster with a 10 yard scoring pass to make it 31-14

Late in the game it was 31-24 with the Raiders moving. Texan's safety Troy Nolan intercepted a second Gradkowski pass. That ended any hope.

But the Raiders are making good progress. Too bad it may not show up in the win column. The Raiders played very hard but Houston may well be one of the strongest teams in the league.

Next Sunday the San Diego Chargers come to Oakland. Might it be fair to say the Raiders will have a successful season if they topple the Chargers ?
