ALAMEDA--If you’re looking for defensive lineman Richard Seymour don't count on him showing up anytime soon. Seymour says he has issues, he has issues alright and one of them is playing for the Raiders which he wants to avoid. Seymour is not reporting and the Raiders better get used to that.
Everybody in this entire nation not just Raider Nation knows how bad the Raiders are. And no veteran in their right mind wants any part of that team. All you do is have to ask one how wretched this franchise really is.
Also how screwed up management is and that will tell you all you need to know about the Raiders and how they stand with the veterans in the NFL. I wouldn't want to be a part of it either to honest with you.
As far as head coach Tom Cable is concerned anytime Cable has been interviewed he just stands by his standard speech "there is nothing new to report." Then there is the release of Jeff Garcia by the Raiders and I'm not very surprised by this move at all. The Raiders are trying to aim to have this image of having a younger quarterback in JaMarcus Russell.
Russell hasn't shown anything after being drafted by the Raiders and that was three years ago. Never mind that he almost held out his entire rookie season and he was asking for more money he really didn't show anything when he got out onto the field.
Now Garcia who was there to push JaMarcus to get better and to prove that he's the starting quarterback that has NFL caliber. So far Russell hasn't shown that. When you really interpret it and you really get down to it it's all about the Raiders not wanting to hurt JaMarcus' feelings and they want to protect their huge investment the best way they can.
That means the Raiders will get rid of any veteran whose any threat to Russell because they don't want anybody else starting besides Russell. The Raiders are going to live and die by this guy and he flames out which is scary and which is very possible.
Opener on Monday Night: This is like all the other openers that the Raiders have had in the past few years you may remember the loss to the Chargers on an opening Monday Night 37-0. Andrew Walter was quarterback for Oakland he got beaten around like a pinata.
He was sacked seven times in that game.
The defense can't stop the run and this year's Raiders is a very sad football team and it's going to take time to get a pretty good team together. The only team that the Raiders might have chance against right now in the division is the Chiefs. Even that game would be a stretch right now. So the Raiders haven't really shown anything and in the past years.
Raiders kick off the regular season Monday Night September 14th against the Chargers at the Coliseum.
