ALAMEDA--You don't appreciate a healthy wrist until you can't use it any more and for the Oakland Raiders star cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha that is such the case after fracturing his left wrist in the game against New Orleans on Saturday night.

The Raiders play on Thursday night at Qwest field against the Seattle Seahawks in the final game of the pre season and there was cartilage damage done to the wrist but Asomugha says that he'll be in the line up on Monday Night September 14th, "I'll play the opener no problem, if we played today that would be a big issue, I wouldn't be able to go if it was today, but it wouldn't be an issue afterward." said Asomugha.

Asomugha is sporting a cast and is out for all practices and is looking to have the cast removed by the weekend before the 14th. Asomugha if he was healthy would only get one quarter in Seattle if he were able to play since the Raiders are using the starters only for the first quarter and then resting them after that in the final pre season game.

Asomugha is signed for $43.5 million for three years and sitting out for him is hard even for a pre season game. Asomugha wants to work the wrist already but he's told to rest it it hasn't even been one week. If the Raiders allow him in the line up on opening night he might have to be taped up on the wrist area and the concern if it'll interfere with his game and in dealing with the pain.

"I'm not really sure you have to with what it is, in the cast. He'll be wanting to prepare for that the right way. Based on what we were told he should cast it and be able to prepare and be ready for the opener." said head coach Tom Cable.

Stanford Routt is getting the call at cornerback and will line up on the right side and Chris Johnson on the left side. Routt has five years experience and is working out for the spot for Thursday night's game in Asomugha's place.

The key to Asomugha's injury depends on how fast he can heal a wrist injury makes it difficult to bend the hand and movements cause incredible pain just from just a sprain but a fracture can make things rough including the time for the healing process.

Asomugha's hope is to be in the line up for opening night on the 14th in Oakland and it might be a tall order unless the Raiders medical staff plan to wrap him up in tape as tight as possible.

J Dogg's Raiders notes: Raiders rookie wide receiver Louis Murphy is scheduled to start on Thursday night but sprained his right foot while running a pattern in practice on Tuesday and maybe replaced by Javon Walker.

Safety Michael Huff is out with a quad injury Cable is still seeing how Huff is doing after getting some treatment and said that Huff is questionable for Thursday night's game in Seattle.

Quarterback Jeff Garcia is a question mark with a calf injury he received in the New Orleans game on Saturday. Garcia played most of the second half and is having a hard time dropping back in practice and is being watched by the coaches very carefully. Garcia could be needed and wants to get ready for opening night as well. Garcia might take a few snaps in the game's second half depending how the calf feels.

The Raiders left a rough patch in centerfield at the Oakland Coliseum for the A's. The field was lined with the football outline. It is what it is as the Raiders and A's will continue to share the Coliseum for at least the next few years to come. The Raiders play home games on the 14th and 27th and the A's will only have to deal with it for one more Raiders home game as the A's finish their home schedule on the 24th.

The Raiders will be happy because they finally can patch the whole field with grass after the 24th.
