Windy City on the horizon for Raiders

Although it is just the preseason, the Oakland Raiders want to prove to people that they can be a contender this season.

After defeating the Dallas Cowboys on August 12 at Cowboys Stadium by the final score of 17-9, the Raiders once are about to get on their team plane and fly off to another destination.

Just like the Cowboys, who have a lot of history in their books, including five Super Bowl championships, tying them with the San Francisco 49ers for second most ever, the Raiders opponent this Saturday night also has a lot of history.

When the National Football League was founded back in 1920, this team entered the league as the Decatur Staleys; however the following season, they moved to their present city and received a name change.

The team moved to Chicago, and became known as the Chicago Bears and 89 years later, they are still one of the most historic teams in NFL history.

Granted, they have won only one Super Bowl since the inception of the game back in 1967, but what a dominating victory it was for the Bears.

Playing the “46 defense,” under Defensive Coordinator Buddy Ryan and led by Super Bowl MVP Richard Dent, current 49ers head coach Mike Singletary, Dan Hampton, Steve McMichael, Otis Wilson and the rest of the defense simply demolished the New England Patriots.

Oh yeah, the Bears offense was not too shabby either on that January day in 1986, as Jim McMahon, Walter Payton and rookie William “The Refrigerator” Perry, who was also a defensive lineman, but played offense as well, defeated the Patriots 46-10, to give the Bears their first Championship since then head coach Mike Ditka wore number 89 for “Papa Bear” George Halas and defeated the New York Giants 14-10 at Wrigley Field back in 1963.
