ALAMEDA--The Oakland Raiders waved good bye to wide receiver Randy Moss who was dealt to the New England Patriots on Sunday for a fourth round draft pick. Moss made it know for the past two seasons with the Raiders that he was not happy and not happy with the offensive play calling and wanted out.
Moss, on his talk show on FOX Sports Radio, last season made it clear on a couple of his shows that he wanted out of Oakland and the reason was that the play calling by former coaches Norv Turner and Art Shell more recently were not designed to have balls thrown to him as often as he wanted them too.
Moss who has made the Pro Bowl five times when he played with the Minnesota Vikings before coming to Oakland. Moss hit a low in offensive stats after last season going 553 yards and only 42 catches. Moss racked up 102 catches for 1558 yards for only 11 touchdowns during his short tenure in Oakland.
Moss now leaves for New England on of the two teams he requested to be dealt to the other being Green Bay. Moss would not comment on the trade but the Raiders have said that he is pleased with the deal in getting what he wants. New Raider head coach Lane Kiffin said he wanted players who were happy to be on the club and that Moss' departure is something that will make both Moss and the Raiders happy, "We felt this was the best scenario for both the Raiders and Randy. We wish him nothing but the best," said Kiffin.
Moss is looking forward to making catches with the Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady. The Pats have strengthened their wide receiver core by getting Wes Walker in a trade with the Dolphins, Donte' Stallworth and Kelly Washington were signed as free agents. Some say that this deal could almost give New England a sure shot at going all the way with the offense they have.
Kiffin feels he likes what he has with Jerry Porter, Ronald Curry, and Doug Gabriel who are veterans and receivers with the club and the Raiders have added Mike Williams and look to Williams as a key receiver to start, the Raiders on Saturday dealt their fourth round draft pick in getting Williams and picked up quarterback Josh McCown from Detroit.
Kiffin also feels the Raiders have a strong core of quarterbacks the team had been missing in getting JaMarcus Russell in the draft on Saturday, signing McCown and Andrew Walter is returning next season.
