Even though San Jose was eliminated from the playoffs last week, they ended their season with a win before a standing room only crowd of 10,562. Shea Salinas and Ryan Cochrane both scored tonight, giving San Jose a 2-0 win over Toronto FC.

The first half saw San Jose determination to score a goal. Toronto showed their resolve to stop them. Both teams ended the half scoreless, but San Jose put up 8 shots on goal to only 2 for Toronto. If anyone put up a stellar performance in the first half it had to be Greg Sutton, the Toronto goalkeeper.

Only 4 minutes into the second half San Jose found their first goal on a corner kick. Ronnie O’Brien sent a high kick into the box, finding Ryan Cochrane who headed it in and beat the Toronto goalkeeper.

San Jose put up another dominating offensive show in the second half. San Jose ended the game with 17 shots compared to only 4 for Toronto. On top of that, Toronto did not put up one shot on goal in the second half.

San Jose’s lead was extended in the 90th minute on a penalty kick by Shea Salinas. Salinas had just put some fancy footwork outside the box and beat two defenders. As he entered the box he was taken down by a reckless tackle, setting up the penalty kick.

San Jose ends its expansion season with a record of 8-13-9 (33pts). Toronto ends with 9-13-8 (35pts).

The Quakes also announced that Darren Huckerby was named the team’s Most Valuable Player, and Jason Hernandez was named the Quakes Defensive Player of the year. Veteran Joe Cannon was given the award of U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Humanitarian of the Year.
