Los Angeles – San Jose knew they weren’t going to the playoffs, but they were going to play hard and make every effort to avenge their earlier losses to the Chivas from the season. They were able to pull out a 2-2 tie, and have one game remaining in the season.
Chivas broke on to the scoreboards in the seventh minute as Maykel Galindo received a great pass after he got past the Quakes defenders, and he blasted a low shot to the far post from the left side of the penalty area beating Joe Cannon.
The Quakes equalized 14 minutes later as Shea Salinas sent a cross into the penalty box and found Brandon McDonald who sent a strong header into the net.
San Jose pulled ahead of the Chivas in the 58th minute as Chris Leitch sent a long set piece kick into the box and Ryan Johnson pulled out a strong header that beat Zach Thornton for their second goal. This put San Jose up 2-1.
San Jose wouldn’t hold on to their lead though, the Chivas offense equalized 8 minutes later with a goal by Justin Braun.
At least San Jose didn’t give up a goal in stoppage time, as they did so many times before in late season play, and they hold on to a 2-2 tie.
