San Jose played the Dynamo at the Houston home stadium, where they hoped a win would keep them right in playoff contention. Houston's Stuart Holden scored two goals and led the Dynamo to a 2-1 victory over the Quakes.
Houston came out strong in the beginning, with Stuart Holden scoring his first goal of the night in only the 6th minute.
The Quakes got a lucky break early on as Kei Kamara was sent off the field at minute 11 with a red card for elbowing Quakes defender Nick Garcia in the throat.
San Jose saw its equalizing goal come in the 68th minute as Scott Sealy took advantage of a rebound from Onstad and easily put it in. The play unfolded as Houston's Eddie Robinson sent a weak pass to Onstad that Darren Huckerby pressured. Onstad kicked it away to a waiting Sealy who then put it in the net.
San Jose was not able to put enough pressure on Houston, even with a man down for 79+ minutes, to score another goal. Houston's Stuart Holden delivered another goal in the 90th minute as he put in a rebound for their final goal.
San Jose traveled to Houston to make up the game that was postponed from September 20th from Hurricane Ike worries.
