FRISCO, TX – The San Jose Earthquakes and FC Dallas battled it out today at FC Dallas home stadium for valuable points in the chase for the remaining playoff spots.
The first half was back and forth and saw FC Dallas taking the majority of shooting on goal.
San Jose drew a goal in the 58th minute as defender Jason Hernandez sent a long ball up field to Ryan Johnson, who showed his speed and ball handling skills as he raced up and beat the defenders and put the tally past FC Dallas goalkeeper Dario Sala. Ryan Johnson had just come in moments earlier as a sub for Ronnie O’Brien.
San Jose continued to make offensive substitutions to keep the pressure on FC Dallas, but FC Dallas never gave up and kept putting equal pressure on Joe Cannon and the San Jose defense.
The 89th minute saw another call that went against San Jose, as Lima was called for a handball in the box. This brought on Kenny Cooper, who easily beat Cannon on the penalty kick. This gives Cooper his 15th tally of the season, second only to Landon Donovan at 19.
Ending the game in a tie puts San Jose at 7-10-9 for the season, and they earn 1 point in their conference totals. This season the Quakes record is 2-6-5 in their away games.
