Carson, CA – The San Jose Earthquakes are starting to become a team to be reckoned with. Although they didn’t win tonight, they extended their unbeaten streak to six games today against the Chivas USA team.

July 5th was a pivotal date for both teams: The last game the Chivas won was against the Quakes on this date 1-0, while the Quakes haven’t lost a game since this date.

The good news for San Jose is that they are only 4 points off of the third place team in the Western Conference, even though they are still in last place. This gives Quakes fans hope that they might make the playoffs in their first year back as an expansion team. New additions like Alvarez, Sealy, and Huckerby have really energized the offense, and indicators are the Quakes are moving up.

Tonight’s game was a scoreless draw, with both teams running into strong defense. Joe Cannon put up another shutout, giving him 64, which is second in the all time MLS shutout records.

Game play tonight was controlled much by the Chivas USA offense, spurred on by the return of Ante Razov. Chivas put up some strong attempts in the first half, one of the best was in the 30 minute mark as Ante Razov was taken down 20 yards outside the box. On the kick, he bent it over the wall, but could not get by Joe Cannon.

The Quakes put up a strong shot in the 63rd minute and almost scored in the 93rd minute as Chivas goalkeeper Zach Thornton made a spectacular diving save to prevent the goal.

The Quakes are looking forward now to playing Kansas City next week, and the start of a three game home set.
