San Jose, CA – The San Jose Earthquakes resurging offense met up with the top team in the MLS tonight at Buck Shaw stadium in Santa Clara, CA. They showed the Revolution and the rest of the MLS that they will not be staying at the bottom of the standings for long.

San Jose started putting the pressure on the New England defenders right away, starting with a few shots on goal by the third minute.

That pressure paid off in the 11th minute as Ronnie O’Brien got his first goal of the night from a Francisco Lima pass. He put it across the left post high into the net past the goalkeeper.

San Jose put 6 shots on goal the first half, compared to New England’s 3 shots.

The second half started off with what looked to be a re-energized New England team pressuring and controlling the ball. It all started to unravel in the 54th minute as their starting goalkeeper Matt Reis had to go out of the game with an abductor injury.

San Jose amazed its fans with a show of force that set this as their best game of the season. Three goals would follow starting in the 71st minute with a pass from O’Brien to Sealy to Ryan Johnson, who delivered it sharply into the net.

Only 4 minutes later the Quakes Darren Huckerby sent a pass through defenders across to Scott Sealy in front of the net. Sealy sure looked to be offsides, but no call was made and he sent a rolling shot on the ground right past a surprised substitute goalkeeper Doug Warren.

The game finisher was in the 87th minute as Huckerby sent another cross, this time to Ronnie O’Brien. O’Brien took an aimed look at the keeper and sent a high shot over his head right under the top post.

Score 4 goals for the Quakes, season high game scoring and they defeat the top points team in the league.

San Jose (5-9-6) fails to move out of last place with this win, but puts up a much needed 3 points in the close Western conference point totals. New England (10-6-3) drops out of first place in the Eastern Conference as Columbus overtakes them with their win this week.
