Oakland, CA – 26,071 fans came out to see the San Jose Earthquakes and the LA Galaxy battle it out today for a Quakes home game at the Oakland Coliseum. The result today would be different than the last time the two teams played in Oakland though, as San Jose delivered a 3-2 win over LA at home.

The Quakes have made many changes to their lineup recently to charge up their offense, and after today’s performance, it appears they might have finally done it. With the performances of Darren Huckerby, Scott Sealy, and Arturo Alvarez today, San Jose finally broke its 8 game winless streak, helping LA extend theirs to 7 games.

The Quakes started the game off showing that they came to win. In the 8th minute Darren Huckerby pushed a pass to Scott Sealy who quickly tapped a pass over to new comer Arturo Alvarez who directed it into the far right post for a goal.

As the first half was drawing to a close, Huckerby stepped up again for San Jose. Eric Denton passed the ball over to Huckerby, who easily dribbled around defender Chris Klein who slipped and fell. Huckerby quickly capitalized on the error, as he sent a lob over Steve Cronin to the far post that bounced off the crossbar into the net.

The Galaxy responded immediately with a set piece by David Beckham that crossed over and found Landon Donovan. Donovan put a header into the goal but hit the crossbar and missed. The ball reflected out and Beckham repeated the set pass to Donovan, who didn’t miss a second time, putting it into the net past a diving Joe Cannon for a goal.

The action in the 2nd half continued at a fast pace and in the 76th minute, Edson Buddle fought his way past a defender in the middle and fired a shot past Joe Cannon for an unassisted Galaxy goal. This served to tie the game up at 2 goals a piece.

It looked to be that Los Angeles was taking over the momentum until a dramatic goal in the 89th minute for Ryan Cochrane. This put the Quakes up 3-2 and they held on for the win to beat the Galaxy.

Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle showed why they both lead the league in goals; they each scored a goal today and stay at the top with 16 goals a piece.
