Santa Clara, CA – The San Jose Earthquakes came home to start a 3 game series today facing the New York Red Bulls. The Quakes came out strong today, intent on breaking their long winless streak.

Even though San Jose did not win today, they showed that they are a changing team that really feels they do have a chance to get into the playoffs. With recent additions bringing new life into the game, the San Jose offense has shown strong potential.

The game started off on a bad foot for the Quakes, as four minutes into the game Eric Denton accidentally headered a pass back to Joe Cannon that went over his head, giving New York a 1 goal lead.

After shaking off the slow start, the Quakes offense stepped it up and began the assault on the Red Bulls guards. In the 13th minute, the game was equalized by Darren Huckerby. Scott Sealy had just turned and fired a hard close shot that rebounded off the keepers hands. Huckerby was waiting for the rebound and fired it promptly into the net.

The quakes continued the assault on the Red Bulls goalkeeper the rest of the game, with 20 shots vs. the Red Bulls 10. Most of the Red Bulls shots came in the second half; the quakes defense held them to only two shots in the first half.

Both teams walk away with a tie and 1 point for their conference totals. San Jose (3-9-6) moves to 15 points, New York (5-6-7) moves to 22 points, still near the bottom of their division.
