Earthquakes draw with Tottenham on hot day

San Jose played to a 0-0 draw with English Premier League partner Hotspurs on an 85 degree day.
Fans certainly came out as the front entrance line curved to near the “Santa Clara University” sign, and the media entrance was converted to another general entrance point, 10, 712 fans to be exact, an all-time high for Buck Shaw Stadium.
With regards to the game, Tottenham’s Robbie Keane mentioned (the Earthquakes) “passed the ball very well,” and the Earthquakes’ By obbConvey thought “it was a good example of what we as a team can do.”
On US soccer, Spurs’ Coach Harry Redknapp was “impressed with them in the World Cup. They played against England, but England couldn’t beat them.”
Convey took a shot in just the 3rd minute.
The Spurs had two fouls in the 8th and 9th minutes.
Tottenham had an apparent goal in the 11th minute, when Jermaine Janus got Keane right to the left of goalkeeper Jon Busch near the goalpost, but Keane was whistled offside.
San Jose’s Joey Gjertsen and Gareth Bale had a one-on-one battle on the Earthquakes’ side in the 22nd minute, but the ball bounced off Bale.
The Earthquakes’ Ramiro Corrales had the game’s first shot on goal in the 23rd minute
In the 25th minute, a corner kick by Bale resulted in a shot by Keane which went wide left.
Bale had the Suprs’ first shot on goal in the 30th minute.
Glen had his second shot on goal in the 45th minute.
San Jose made a number of substitutions before the second half, with seven to Tottenham’s three. However, the Spurs made five more substitutions the rest of the game for a total of eight, with 78th minute Keane’s exit in the 78th minute and Tom Huddlestone’s exit in the 85th minute, generating applause from the crowd.
Tottenham came out attacking first in the second half, with three shots between the 46th and 47th minutes, followed by a shot on goal from Arturo Alvarez.
The Spurs started another attack with shots in the 56th and 58th minute, and a shot on goal by Andros Townsend in the 60th minute.
Alvarez had two corner kicks in the 62nd and 63rd minutes.
Bale limped off the field with a foot injury in the 69th minute, but was able to come back and play.
Townsend and Alvarez had their second shots on goal in the 74th and 75th minutes respectively.
The Earthquakes’ Omar Jasseh committed fouls in the 81st and 83rd minute, receiving a yellow card for the latter. Jasseh was called for a reckless tackle on Luka Modric.
A last shot by Bale in the 92nd minute ended the game.
Game notes: San Jose’s Chris Leitch apparently suffered an injury and is doubtful for Thursday’s game. Also, Eduardo, who would have played in Saturday’s game, re-injured his thigh Friday, with an estimated six more weeks of being out. The Earthquakes ttravel to Los Angeles to face the Galaxy at 7:30pm Thursday.
