Oakland, CA – Pablo Campos lead the San Jose Earthquakes to a 2-1 victory over state rival LA Galaxy today. Campos would score an early goal and assist Ryan Johnson early in the second half for their second, and they never looked back from there.
San Jose came into this match looking to continue their positive momentum, knowing that they would be playing at home against the Galaxy. This would prove to fire up not only their offense, but their defense too.
The sixth minute saw Pablo Campos fighting past two defenders in the right side of the box. Right before he ran out of room at the line, Galaxy defender Berhalter tackled him and gave up a penalty kick. Campos took full advantage of the shot, firing it low and to the left post, easily beating Galaxy keeper Donovan Ricketts.
The Pablo Campos show would continue in the 54th minute as sailed a header right across the goal and found an eager Quake forward named Ryan Johnson who kicked it right in through the Galaxy Keepers hands to score their second of the day.
LA, who were playing without their superstars Donovan and Beckham, were able to rally up a goal in the 65th minute, but that would be their last. Even with a last minute heavy pressure drive around the Quakes net, the defense stopped them.
San Jose plays again July 3rd at Real Salt Lake.
