Columbus, Ohio – The San Jose Earthquakes’ (3-6-1) Ryan Johnson and Ramiro Corrales scored tonight, giving the Quakes a 2-0 win over the Columbus Crew (6-4-1). Ronnie O’Brien scored two assists, helping both Johnson and Corrales score their goals.
The Columbus Crew has had a very poor offensive run as of late; they have not scored in their last 4 matches. The last time they scored a goal was actually against the Quakes back in May in their 3-2 victory.
San Jose had entered the match struggling to get out of the bottom of their bracket, with very low goal scoring for the season.
The game certainly didn’t lack passion on the part of both teams. This one got heated several times, leading to 6 yellow cards and 2 red card ejections from the game.
In the 10th minute, O’Brien crossed the ball into Johnson, who headed it into the upper left corner of the net. Columbus Crew goalkeeper Will Hesmer nearly got a hand on it, but couldn’t stop it.
In the 60th minute, O’Brien set it over to Corrales for yet another header goal. This one also went into the upper left side of the net.
San Jose scored a much needed three points with tonight’s win. Maybe the Quakes are finally starting to gel together and will show that Quakes spirit they have always been known for.
