In Texas, San Jose fell to FC Dallas 2-0 in a lackluster performance.
Not to say that Dallas didn't struggle, but they performed better then the Earthquakes as Dallas's defense didn't give the Earthquakes much opportunity to shoot.
There were three offside calls in the 11th to 15th minutes, the first two by FC Dallas.
Starting with FC Dallas's Jeff Cunninham in the 10th minute, it and the next three shots were shots on goal. Only the one by Arturo Alvarez in the 16th minute belonged to the Earthquakes. Cunninham also had the last shot on goal during this stretch, in the 21st minute.
From the 34th to 45th minute, FC Dallas attacked the net five straight times, with a corner kick right after the first shot.
Things got more intense physically in the second half, with eleven fouls between the both teams, compared to three in the first half.
Eric Avila had a shot in the 55th minute for FC Dallas.
In the 58th minute, they made the game 1-0 when Brek Shea scored his second goal of the season, aided by David Ferreira and Heath Pearce.
Shea then scored again swiftly in the 60th minute, this time unhelped, to give FC Dallas a 2-0 lead.
San Jose's Cornell Glen came in as a sub in the 64th minute for his sixth appearance as such.
FC Dallas's George John received a yellow card for a tactical foul on Glen in the 66th minute.
The Earthquakes' Jason Hernandez also received a yellow card for the same type of foul on Ferreira in the 70th minute.
San Jose was outshot 9-3 in the first half and 4-2 in the second.
The last time they were blanked in a loss was their season opener.
It was FC Dallas's first win since May 8 and they last scored two goals in a game April 28.
Game notes: The Earthquakes return to action after the two-week World Cup break with a game against Real Salt Lake for the third and final time this regular season, June 25 at 6pm at Rio Tinto Stadium.
