SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Joe Cannon and the Earthquakes’ defense couldn’t do enough to stop the Real Salt Lake steamroller tonight as the Quakes fell 3-1 to Real Salt Lake. The fact that San Jose was missing their lead goal scorer Kei Kamara, and Ivan Guerrero to their National teams didn’t help their offense tonight.

The defense for San Jose’s goalkeeper Joe Cannon started fast and early as Ramiro Corrales was called for handling the ball in their box just a few minutes into the game. Cannon anticipated the shot correctly as Salt Lakes Morales sent a weak shot to the right side which got deflected.

The teams fought back and forth most of the rest of the first half, with RSL keeping Cannon on his toes to keep San Jose in the game.

As the second half opened up, so did Salt Lake’s offense. In the 48th minute, Robbie Findley found the net after receiving a pass from midfielder Javier Morales. Findley had just substituted in for Fabian Espindola shortly before this play.

12 minutes later, Findley setup an easy pass over to Javier Morales inside the Quakes’ box. Morales dribbled the ball a little and shot it past Cannon into the right corner of the net which gave them a strong 2-0 lead.

The quakes defense could not stop the Salt Lake offense again, as defender Nick Garcia pulled down the RSL midfielder Dema Kovalenko in the box in the 73rd minute. Kovalenko did not disappoint the home team fans as he fired it into the net for their 3rd goal of the evening.

The Quakes’ John Cunliffe put the Quakes on the scoreboard in the 84th minute, but it wouldn’t be enough to stop RSL.
