Coming off a strong run, things didn't quite go San Jose's way, as they and their four-game undefeated and scoreless run fell to Toronto FC 3-1 Saturday.

The winning goal came in the 70th minute. It was similar to Toronto's previous goal, but Joe Cannon had more of a chance as Dwayne De Rosario kicked the ball right past his outstretched hands. Dan Gargan had kicked it long to De Rosario right in front of De Rosario's defender. It was his seventh goal in nine games. De Rosario entered the game at the start of the second half. The Earthquakes' could not quite get it together and goalkeeper Stefan Frei made a lot of nice saves when they did get close. San Jose had a lot of close chances at the end, and overall, their defense hardly showed up.

Toronto moved to second place in the Eastern division as they won for the fourth straight game in regular season games, and sixth straight including the Canadian Championship games. It was also their first season road win.

The Earthquake's Ryan Johnson got a little injured during the foul he committed in the 4th minute, and worked it out on the field.

Toronto's Martin Saric was issued a yellow card in the 8th minute for a reckless foul, where he had a leg out and Bobby Convey ended up somersaulting in the air.

The first two shots of the game, which were Toronto's, went wide left.

Starting in the 15th minute, Toronto FC had two corner kicks. Then, came San Jose's first shot, which was a shot on goal and another corner kick by Toronto. The Earthquakes Joey Gjertsen and Convey traded shots and corner kicks respectively from the 20th to 24th minute. Toronto's next shot came in the 28th minute.

The first goal of the game started with a footrace between San Jose's Jason Hernandez and Chad Barrett. Hernandez got the ball first and headed it toward Cannon. As Cannon came forward, he collided with Chad Barrett and the ball rolled into the net to make it 1-0 in the 31st minute. The Earthquakes lasted 393 scoreless minutes before giving up this goal. Barrett then immediately received a yellow card for unsporting behavior. It was his fourth goal in his last four games. He was pulled after 82 minutes.

There were different perspectives about the previous play. Mostly, San Jose's Coach Frank Yallop and Hernandez mentioned miscommunication and Cannon the sun, "not using it as blame."

Convey had a nice strong kick towards the net in the 35th minute, but it was saved by Stefan Frei.

San Jose's Brandon McDonald had a shot on goal in the 43rd minute.

In the second half, Chris Wondolowski tried to head the ball in right in front of the net in the 48th minute, but was thwarted by Frei. De Rosario then received a foul for a foot in Brad Ring's back. Convey's resulting free kick from just behind the left corner was unsuccessful.

Convey attempted another kick into the net in the 57th minute, but it was saved once again.

The Earthquakes' Bobby Burling received a yellow card for a foul committed against Nick LaBrocca. Burling was called for simulation as he tumbled after one of his teammates tumbled seconds before.

Convey hit the right post at one point.

Off a corner kick by Convey, Ramiro Corrales headed it in, stretching his arms out in flight in celebration to cut Toronto's lead to one in the 75th minute. Corrales was aided by Convey, who had his sixth assist in nine games. It was Toronto's first goal given up in 485 minutes, including the Canadian Championship games.

An interesting situation occurred one of the times the ball went out of play. Toronto's assistant coach caught the ball and Convey recived a second ball from the ball boy. As Convey was about t pout the ball in play, the assistant coach put his ball back into play to waste time. Upset, Convey spiked the ball against the sideline. As a result, the assistant coach received a red card and Convey received a yellow card. Convey's next yellow card will result in a suspension.

Toronto's third goal came after one of San Jose's free kicks in stoppage time. LaBrocca made a long pass to De Rosario in front of an empty net, who was a comfortable distance away from his nearest defender. De Rosario may not even had to kick the ball in, as it was traveling pretty well on its own. Cannon was on the opposite end of the field after joining his team on offense for a previous free kick.

Game notes: There was a change in the Earthquakes' lineup this time. Though Andre Luiz was on the probable lineup, he was replaced by Ring on the official lineup. For Toronto, Gargan and Nana Attakora who were questionable, played. For Amway Global Kicks for Kids Program, San Jose's Chris Leitch taught at San Jose's Terrell Elementary School about physicality (exercise and diet). The Earthquakes' next game is their first regular season weekday one, Wednesday at 7pm.
