Columbus, Ohio – The San Jose Earthquakes (1-7-2) lost to the Columbus Crew (2-2-6) today 2-1 in a tough loss. Once the Crew’s Schelotto scored in the second half, the Quakes couldn’t score the equalizer, despite their best efforts.
Ryan Johnson put the Quakes on the scoreboards first, a position that they have often capitalized on to grab a win. Johnson scored his fifth goal of the year in the 23rd minute, as he pushed past a defender to shoot the ball past Crew goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum.
The Crew would equalize very shortly after, only 6 minutes later. Gaven put a header goal past Joe Cannon from a long ball pass to the box by Gino Padula, that had been header passed across to Gaven by Eric Brunner.
San Jose has now lost 5 in a row, and they are 0-6-2 in their last eight MLS games.
