Chris Wondolowski provided the offense and Joe Cannon the defense as San Jose shut out the Seattle Sounders FC 1-0 Saturday in their fourth straight shutout, during an afternoon match at Seattle's Qwest Field.

Wondolowski's fifth goal of the season and fifth in his last six games came in the 11th minute, as he was aided by Bobby Burling and Brandon McDonald, who both got their first assists of the season. Seattle's goalkeeper Kasey Keller had it relatively easy the rest of the game, as the team only had two more shots, both from Wondolowski, and three corner kicks.

The Sounders in contrast, had a total of eighteen shots and eleven corner kicks.

The game started off hot with a foul in the 1st minute by Seattle. The Sounders committed two more by the 7th minute, one in the 8th minute by the Earthquakes, and one more by Seattle in the 10th minute, before the fouls were broken up by a corner kick by San Jose's Bobby Convey in the 11th minute.

Sanna Nyassi had a shot on goal in the 16th minute, but Cannon saved the ball from going in the net. The Sounders persistently attacked with three shots and one shot on goal between the 21st and 28th minutes. Seattle also had three corner kick opportunities within the same time frame as this was just the start of their strategy.

In the 35th minute, San Jose's Ryan Johnson received a yellow card for a reckless tackle.

The Sounders ended the first half with three more shots.

Between the 49th and 51st minutes, Seattle had four corner kick opportunities and two shots. One of the corner kicks resulted in one of the shots, but Nathan Sturgis's shot was deflected.

The Sounders had two shots and two corner kicks between the 67th and 68th minute. Miguel Montano's shot went wide right of the net.

San Jose received another yellow card when Convey was called for a reckless tackle against Freddie Ljunberg in the 78th minute.

Seattle's tenacity never wavered as they had two shots and a corner kick between the 86th and 88th minutes and the same between the 93rd and 94th minutes.

Game notes: 2009 can now be forgotten, where both teams won on their home turf in three games. The Earthquakes are now in a three-way tie for second place in the Western Conference. San Jose next returns to host Toronto FC May 29 at 7pm.
