Foxborough, MA – The New England Revolution (5-3-1) defeated the San Jose Earthquakes (1-5-1) at their home stadium today with strong play and a little luck. Kheli Dube scored his first tally of the season and the San Jose Earthquakes’ defender James Riley followed up shortly with an own-goal in the Earthquakes net.

New England went on to its second victory in a row by keeping the ball moving quickly most of the match, and more importantly, they shut down the San Jose offense. The quakes only had 3 shots on goal the whole night.

The Revolution started the game with heavy pressure on the Quakes, starting with a flurry of attempts in the 4th minute. Zimbabwe native Kheli Dube scored the first goal for the Revolution in the 6th minute. He took a centering feed from midfielder Steve Ralston and fired it past Joe Cannon for a goal.

The 23rd minute saw an own goal from James Riley of the Earthquakes. The ball was coming back to the defenders on a very high arc and Riley thought to head the ball back to Cannon. He did not see that Cannon had been coming out to meet the ball, and his header went right over Cannon’s head and gave the Revolution its 2nd goal.

In the 73rd minute, San Jose thought they should have received a handball in the goal area as it hit Revolution defender Chris Albright in the arm, but play kept going and no call came.

Neither the Revolution nor the Quakes could score another goal for the night, as play ended with Ramiro Corrales driving a shot into the crossbar shortly before stoppage time started.

The New England Revolution’s win was their first against the Quakes since 2000.
