The Earthquakes defeated the Colorado Rapids 1-0 Saturday at Buck Shaw stadium in front of a crowd of 8,674. Quakes forward Chris Wondolowski (3) scored the deciding goal 33 minutes into the match, with assists from Ryan Johnson (2) and Ramiro Corrales (1). The goal marked Wondolowski’s third consecutive game with a goal.

The victory snapped the Rapids’ two-game winning streak with an improve defensive performance over last week’s match against Chivas U.S.A. Meanwhile, the Earthquakes improved to 3-2 on the season.

Earlier in the week, Wondolowski, a Danville native, made his Amway Global Kicks for Kids debut on Tuesday. Coming off of his second consecutive game with a goal, Wondolowski visited Costaño Elementary School in East Palo Alto.

The Earthquakes and Amway Global teamed up to create the Amway Global Kicks for Kids program in 2009. The program returns for its second season in 2010. Through the program, Earthquakes players will visit 15 schools or community centers in the Bay Area to discuss the importance of being active and living a healthy lifestyle.

The Chico State alumni stressed the impact a healthy diet and active lifestyle had on his life growing up playing multiple sports. Wondolowski explained to the children how the choices he made as a child to eat healthy foods helped him achieve his goal of becoming a professional soccer player. He also spoke to the children about the importance of staying active. Wondolowski also showed them how they can remain active when not playing a sport.

Wondolowski gave away 250 tickets to the students, which were donated by Amway Global, to the students to attend Saturday’s match.

The Quakes (9 points) return to their home pitch next Saturday to defend against the New York Red Bulls at 7:00 p.m.
