Seattle – The San Jose Earthquakes matched up with the expansion Seattle Sounders and were defeated 2-0. Seattle’s Keller stopped everything San Jose threw at him, coming back from a red card the prior week.
San Jose (1-3-2) is now winless in their last four games and they are winless in their last 11 road games.
Sounders keeper Keller was credited with 5 saves and came through for Seattle when it mattered today, shutting down San Jose’s offense. Keller is pushing a record of 389 minutes of not allowing a goal to start the season, who just beat the old record of 375 set in 2007 by Ronald Waterreus.
The Sounders scored in the 42nd minute and in the 49th minute. As San Jose came out of the second half, they felt like they had some momentum until Seattle scored again.
Earthquakes midfielder Bobby Convey said “Kasey made a great saves, and when they score a goal that quick in the second half, it deflates you a little bit.”
San Jose will be playing again next week at home at Buck Shaw Stadium against the New York Red Bulls.
