COMMERCE CITY, Colorado – The San Jose Earthquakes defeated the Colorado Rapids today with a score of 2-0. This gives the Quakes their first win of the season, bringing their record to (1-2-0). The Colorado Rapids fall to (2-2-0).

The first goal for San Jose came in the 43rd minute as a wide open Ronnie O’Brien drove in his own rebound from Rapids goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul who had just stopped the first attempt from O’Brien.

Two minutes later the Rapids almost tied it up with a hard shot to the corner of the box by Cummings, but Quakes keeper Joe Cannon stopped it.

The Rapids made some changes at the half to try to get their offense moving, but it wasn’t enough. The quakes subbed in a defender for one of their forwards just into the second half so they could strengthen their defense.

In the 61st minute, Ned Grabavoy pushed the ball through two defenders to Kei Kamara, who was able to shoot the ball right into the net by avoiding goalkeeper Coundoul sliding attempt to stop him.

Quakes keeper Joe Cannon had four saves for San Jose for his 57th career shutout, while Rapids keeper Coundoul also turned away four shots.
