San Luis Obispo, CA – The Quakes are back! Pre-season started on Friday night as the Earthquakes took on the expansion Seattle Sounders. The Quakes beat the Sounders 3-2 with a strong night from Ryan Johnson.
San Jose’s Ryan Johnson put the Quakes on the boards early with a goal in the 8th minute. Johnson took a pass from Grabavoy over the top and punched in a left footed shot to score. The sounders came back within a few minutes and tied the game as Montero shot it past Cannon.
Johnson would score again as he received a header from Quakes newly signed forward Cam Weaver and shot it in for his second of the night. He almost scored again in the 31st minute, but it didn’t find the net, reflecting off the bar.
Going into halftime the Sounders had come back and Montero had scored his second goal to end the half as a tie.
Less than a minute into the second half, Amarikwa of the Quakes put in an unassisted goal. Amarikwa is a third round draft choice of out of UC Davis. This was his first MLS goal.
The Quakes backup keeper Andrew Weber stopped a strong shot from the Sounders in the 85th minute, which held on to their win.
