In the 115-year history of the Maryland Terrapins have been playing football, only one other time has the school played a game in the State of California.
The year was 1954, and the Terrapins traveled to Los Angeles, where they would face the UCLA Bruins at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
In that game, the Bruins, who would go on to win the National Championship that season defeated the Terrapins by the final score of 12-7.
Fifty-three years later, the Terrapins finally return to the West Coast to play in the sixth annual Emerald Bowl at AT&T Park against the Oregon State Beavers of the PAC-10 Conference.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the Terrapins and the Beavers.
The last time the Terrapins faced a PAC-10 team was in the inaugural Aloha Bowl in Honolulu, as the Terrapins were defeated by the Washington Huskies 21-20.
This is the 22nd all-time bowl game for the Terps.
In the previous 21 games, the Terrapins are 9-10-1; however they have won their last three bowl games, including a 24-7 2006 Champs Sports Bowl victory over the Purdue Boilermakers.
In their last three bowl appearances, the Terrapins have outscored their 95-17 in those three bowl games.
