Question #1. After rest for 11 days and getting back into action the Cal Bears 6-1 (0-0) faced Delaware State back in Berkeley on the home floor. Is it a good thing or a bad thing that the Bears would have so much time off between games does a team lose it balance with that much time off?
It is a bad thing. You are still early into the season and the team has to learn to play together in a real game atmosphere, not practice.
Question #2. Stanford 6-4 (0-0) handled Santa Clara 74-48 last night. The Cardinal Men play at Texas Tech 6-4 (0-0) this Saturday night. How do you see these two teams matching up in what could be a tight physical game and not bad for non-conference match up?
I see a Texas Tech win. The Red Raiders are stinging from a 80-63 loss to New Mexico. They are definitely looking to put a hurtin' on Stanford.
Question #3. New Mexico got to handle Stanford's next opponent Bobby Knight and the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Wednesday night 80-63. For the Lobos Dairese Gary lead with 18 points and JR Giddens and Chad Toppert followed up with 13 each. How satisfying is this win for the Lobos beating a Bobby Knight coached team and the Raiders?
No matter where you are, it always a joy to beat Bobby Knight. Coach Knight is a proven winner, and a Collegiate Hall of Famer. You want to beat him just so you can tell your kids. My team beat a team coached by Bobby Knight. Knight protegee', Steve Alford says he has mixed emotions when he plays Coach Knight. What a pile . . . a mentee always wants to beat the mentor. It means that you have learned everything they tried to teach you.
Final Thoughts:
1. As you all know I really have no love the game of baseball. I mean I'll go to a game every now and again, but if it never came on television ever again, I would miss it about as much as I would miss seeing competitive bass fishing.
Now that the Mitchell report has been released, and Roger Clements name is on about 80 pages, I would like to know where all the outrage is. Barry Bond caught hell when people simply suspected he took steroids. Why aren't MLB fans up in arms about "The Rocket?"
Derek Jeter says "Don't rush to judgment." Why not? His personal trainer has told you when, where, and how many times. Bond's personal trainer hasn't said anything. Clements' teammate Andy Petite has thrown himself on the sword and admitted he used HGH. Man up Roger. The longer you wait, the worse it will be for you.
I agree with John Smoltz when he said that if he had been implicated and it was not true; he would be in front of the media yelling from the rooftops declaring his innocence. Instead, Clements has taken the mafia way and used his Consiglierie. Very Vito Corleone of you Rocket. This is not a good look Roger. Not a good look.
It has been over fifty years since Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in the game of baseball, but the color barrier was only broken on the field. Not in the mind of MLB or its fans.
2. This has been one heck of a sports year. A dog fighting star quarterback, a cheating NBA referee, a cheating, Super Bowl winning coach, and a Bobby Petrino. Petrino has my vote for looser of the year. His lack character makes me weep for the Arkansas Razorback fans.
I don't have an issue with him leaving the Atlanta Falcons. He walked into a team that disintegrated right before his eyes. My problem is how he left the Falcons. He and Arkansas could have three games before they made the announcement. That might have given him some time to tell his Atlanta Falcon players.
Petrino shows this same lack of character as a coach at Louisville. Who can forget the way he was always looking for the next better opportunity, but swearing his allegiance to Louisville? I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want Petrino anywhere near my kid. It is hard enough to teach big time college athletes that they actions have a consequence. How can you teach them that lesson when the only consequence Petrino has is a bigger paycheck?
