Sports Illustrated reported on Thursday night that Allen Iverson who has been on the trade block since requesting a trade last Friday has made it clear to his agent that he does not want to play in either Golden State or Sacramento.
Warriors Vice President Chris Mullin would not comment on this latest revelation and said that there was some interest in Iverson this past week. Interest that included shopping Baron Davis, Tom Murphy, and Jason Richardson in an Iverson deal.
The Sixers left no doubt that when this does ever go down, that it would have to be a multi-player deal. Reports had Iverson and Golden State close to a deal on Tuesday night but Iverson quickly nixed it saying he does not want to play in Golden State or Sacramento. Iverson who does not have a no-trade clause on his contract with the Sixers was still given first rights.
Iverson who requested a trade before last Friday December 8th to Sixers GM Billy King because of turmoil he was having with Head Coach Maurice Cheeks had originally benched Iverson for a bad back but Iverson said at the beginning of the benching that there was nothing wrong with his back and that he was healthy enough to play.
Cheeks told the WIP Radio in Philadelphia that Iverson will remain inactive with the Sixers until a deal is established. Sportstalk has identified this latest list of NBA teams interested in seeking Iverson's services, Denver, Boston, Minnesota, Miami, Clippers, Indiana.
The Lakers might spark an Iverson interest with Kobe and Phil Jackson there. But latest talk from Iverson and his agent has him Christmas shopping on the east coast primarily. Iverson shot down a proposal by the North Carolina Bob Cats. The Celtics could be considered but don't expect to go real thick in the post season with the C's who are going to build around Iverson if he and the Celts ink a deal geographically speaking.
On Wednesday night Ed Snider the Sixers Chairman told ESPN of Iverson's endeavors, "It's time to move on I wish him luck I also hope we can do well." The 76ers who have lost nine straight and play in Dallas on Friday night. Some 76ers players have said the Iverson drama has been a distraction and that a deal either way might settle things down.
Cheeks although not indicating it specifically has said that he's trying to hold the team together.
