1. Sportstalk talk show host and colleague Amaury Pi Gonzalez does a wonderful impression of Howard Cosell saying, "down goes Frazer" after Mohammad Ali knocked Frazer to the canvas in one of his classic fights.
This last Saturday the same could be said about Cal losing it's fifth game out of sixth to Stanford as the Bears held a small half time lead only to see it disappear losing 20-13.
Would you say a banged up Longshore was the reason for the Cal loses or would you say it's just a mental block on behalf of the team?
I'd say it was all mental. Look how far the Bears have fallen . . . You started out a top 25 team and you end the regular season to a team that didn't win a game last year. Coach Tedford needs to do some soul searching and figure out what he and his staff are not doing to get his team over the hump. One player does not make or break a football team, and a banged up Nate Longshore is no different. Other teams don't knock Cal out; Cal knocks themselves out.
2. Stanford just beat the odds and coach Jim Harbaugh had this team believing after half time that the Cardinal can beat the Bears at half time. Further the tackling and hitting by the Cardinal was an indication by everyone who saw the Big Game that the Cardinal was for real last Saturday.
They were not for real this season they were learning how to be a team. Next year they can be for real.
3. OSU-LSU with number one OSU getting ready for number two LSU. Sportstalk's analysts Michael Duca and Jeremy Kahn are predicting this one to be a real rough and tumble. Who do you like in this game that will make you feel like your watching a bowl game?
I like LSU. I think they have more offensive weapons, but Ohio State has defense. What puts LSU over the top is the fact that they have their coach back. They can now play with nothing hanging over their heads.
4. Should the BCS after this year scrap this BCS format and go to a College League playoff format? Should make it out easier for the fans to see whose going where? Kind of like what the NFL, NBA, or NHL does.
I could tell you what they should do, but I want another year of college football like this year. A year that totally screws up the best laid plans of the number crunchers at the BCS.
Final Thoughts:
1. The NFL lost a bright star this week with the murder of Washington Redskins defensive back Sean Taylor. I would like to scold my fellow journalist by telling them to stop handing out compliments about Taylor, then follow it up with a line like . . . "maybe his past caught up to him?" or "In past years Taylor had some trouble with the law."
I get tired of hearing these backhanded complements. Sean Taylor had some troubles with the law early in his career. This is no secret. Let's try to focus on the fact that he was working on being a better man for his daughter and fiancé; and he lost his life protecting those two people he loved more than his life. For me his last act in life made up for any youthful mistakes.
2. It is Bowl season and we are going to be over run with an ungodly amount of sub par bowl games. Since we all know this don't be shocked when you come to the realization that you just wasted 2hours on a game that should have been seen on You Tube only.
3. Would the Eagles fans make up their minds? Either you hate Donovan McNabb or you love pick a side and then shut up, cause no one cares.
