Tiger Woods who issued a statement on Sunday saying that his wife Elin Nordegren courageously broke the rear window of Woods SUV and saved him from any possible danger and called paramedics to assist an incoherent golf star who was seeing stars and bleeding after being in a car accident that hit a neighbors fire hydrant and tree.

Woods gave credit for his wife's assist and that he was okay and there was nothing much more to the story. While some in the media have written off reports from the National Enquirer and TMZ.com saying that the real reason for the crash was due to a fight that resulted in Tiger getting his face scratched after Nordegren accused him of infidelity which was denied by Rachel Uchitel a New York model who was placed as Woods affair partner when Woods was in Australia during a golf tournament.

The Enquirer ran a story that said that fight started after Nordegren found about the affair through the tabloid and became enraged on Friday morning around two in the morning. Nordegren blew her top and scratched the Tiger's face and Tiger left the house and jumped into the SUV at which time Nordegren took a golf club and hit the rear window which jolted Tiger into thinking that he might have hit something or something was wrong with the truck forcing him to hit a fire hydrant and a tree.

Fast forward to Sunday Florida authorities have tried speaking with Woods at his home in Isleworth but they were turned away at the door. Sunday night Woods named a criminal lawyer to represent him Mark NeJame. Sources have told Sportstalk that Woods is not hiring a criminal lawyer because he is guilty of anything but as NeJame would tell Woods that if any accusations are coming he wants full protection.

Woods is not talking and neither is Nordegren. Court TV said that Woods was wise for not speaking with Florida authorities who came to his door on Sunday because Woods doesn't want to take any chance to incriminate himself whatsoever. Woods words were carefully used in his statement to the media on Sunday and he stayed the course by saying that the accident was his fault and that there was minor injuries and as far as his wife's concerned she rescued him and was not trying to clobber him with a golf club.

Woods also said that there was no fight between him and his wife and that everything is normal. There is no doubt that Woods is trying to save face and make the best of a public relations disaster which is the very last thing Woods wanted in his career. Woods needless to say is a very private person and this is at all costs the worst situation for him.

At some point he will return to golf and during his next tournament the Chevron World Challenge in Thousand Oaks, CA on December 3rd he will surely be scrutinized about what happened something that Tiger does not want. Tiger reportedly is going to impose a question guideline at that tournament that says he will not answer any questions regarding what took place last Friday.

Meanwhile Uchitel has hired a lawyer herself and it is rumored that she's doing it for the same reasons as Tiger on the public relations side if she is called into any inquisitions regarding if she had an affair with Tiger. Uchitel has not talked to the media since Saturday and her lawyer Gloria Alred will meet Uchitel in her Los Angeles offices on Monday. Uchitel flew into L.A. over the weekend from New York. Uchitel was followed by cameras and reporters outside her apartment to a waiting cab to take her to the airport. She was asked if it was true that she had an affair with Tiger Woods and she would only say, "I wish I could say something but I can't."

Florida authorities are not saying but they are trying to get confirmation that Woods and his wife indeed were involved in a domestic dispute but if neither are talking this could just play out and authorities will have a whole lot of nothing on their hands to deal with.

Tom Zulewski will have commentary on the Tiger Woods story next week on the Zulewski report on Sportstalk
