#1. The Bears stomped the Stanford Cardinal at Memorial to get the Ax. The Bears had something that they didn't have against Oregon and USC and that was intensity. Going into the final regular season game on December 6th would you agree that Cal has to keep that kind of intensity up even though their facing Washington's Huskies and how important is it for Cal to have had three byes this season?
I don't think Cal had any more intensity than they did when they played any other team in the Pac-10. They just had an easier opponent. Cal has lacked focus and leadership in key areas of the offense and defense. Next the Cardinals will give the Bears a good run for the money.
As for the byes . . . no one needs three byes in a season. How do you expect your team to build the momentum they need to get into a bowl game? What a joke.
#2. The Golden Bears Women's basketball team beat #3 Rutgers with an upset. Head coach Joanne Boyle said that if you put a good game plan out and put your mind to it you can succeed. How big was this win over Rutgers for the Cal Women?
It was a big win for Cal, but understand that this is not the Rutgers team of the past two years. Coach Stringer has five freshman and only two seniors on her team this year. It's going to take a minute for the freshman to get use to playing big time college basketball. But, I do expect to see Cal and Rutgers in the tournament in March.
#3. Stanford's Jim Harbaugh knew after kick off that these Bears did not want to get disgraced at Strawberry Canyon. Even though the Cardinal had their heads handed to them in the big game how much respect and appreciation does the players have for the job that coach Harbaugh had done for the team this season?
Harbaugh had my respect after his team went to LA and showed USC that championships are earned, not given to you by the media.
Final Thoughts:
1. Andy Reid pulled Donavan McNabb at half time of the Eagles/Ravens game on Sunday. Are you stupid Andy Reid? You don't pull McNabb; you let him play his way out. You will be fired at the end of the season, so get a jump on that packing. You know your not going to make the playoffs.
2. How is USC #5 in the BCS and they have had no real significant wins all season?
3. Joe Pa is the only guy to win the Big 10 and have hip replacement surgery the next day. That's the sign of a real warrior.
#4. The Cal Men's basketball team is now 3-0 and they have plenty of guards on the team. The Bears held opponents just to ten or less points in the wins per game. How impressed are you with the job the defense has done to win those first three games?
