SAN FRANCISCO--Peering through a telescopic lens with approval former Giant and baseball home run king Barry Bonds took aim at his new job as a spokesman for a high powered rifle company that produces hunting arms. The high-powered rifle that Bonds was setting his sights on was made by the Christensen Arms Company located in Colorado.

Bonds said of his latest job of being company spokesman, "I want to tell everyone at Christensen Arms thanks for building such a tremendous rifle. Keep up the great work and god bless." said Babo.

It sounded like an autograph more than a statement. But none the less Bonds is shown on a company website photo of him posing smiling with his trophy kill a whitetail deer that he blasted in an alfalfa field located three hours north of Edmonton in glorious Canada.

Bonds was certainly not there for the ice hockey but the good will hunting, "It gets your blood pumping" Bonds said while in a seven minute video talking while looking through the scope of a 300 Ultra Mac rifle and taking aim. Bonds while taking aim and the screen fading to black in the video fires a shot that is not seen on the video but was certainly the one that killed the little critter.

The San Francisco Giants oddly enough received calls at their switchboard Sunday when the story was broadcast and also hit the newsstands in San Francisco. No one from the team as usual would talk about the article and the only thing said by a source at the Giants was the standard "Bonds is no longer part of our employ and no further comment to add."

Some of the viewers, readers and animal rights activists thought they can vent at the Giants because there was no way of protesting to Bonds or anyone else as Bonds is not in baseball anymore but now Bonds is an employee spokesman for Christensen Arms and deer hunting is a new sport that Bonds has taken up. As usual Bonds was not available for comment on the deer killing and we were told by someone answering the phone at Christensen Arms that if he was available "he would only talk about how good the product is", no further comment.

Trial update: The perjury trail that is scheduled for March 1st will see Bonds facing 15 counts of perjury charges regarding Bonds claims that he did not knowingly use steroids during his tenure as a slugger for the Giants as reported here Bonds wants 14 of his 15 perjury counts dropped. The feds plan on going after Bonds for all 15 counts. Bonds could be sentenced up to three years in federal prison for all counts if found guilty by a federal grand jury.

Meanwhile while Bonds lawyers were in Federal court in San Francisco trying to get the perjury counts dropped last year Bonds was reportedly deer hunting in Colorado at that same time where he was rubbing elbows with the rifle maker and getting the endorsement deal together. The federal grand jury indicted Bonds at that time for perjury and obstruction of justice.

Ken Gimblin and Joe Cronin will be covering the Barry Bonds perjury trial in March for Sportatalk radio both also cover Giants baseball.
