SACRAMENTO--The Sacramento Kings are a young team and one has to remember it took a while for this Kings team to jell and make the playoffs last season. The major change this season the Kings will have to do a better job of moving the ball and do a much better job of playing defense.
Many teams make the playoffs and that parts cool, and the Kings should have a chance at it. On the other hand the Pacific Division are going to be a lot stronger and its going to be a lot more difficult for the Kings to win in the division.
The Kings are very fortunate to go down to the wire and beat Phoenix like they did last week and second of all obviously things with Dallas, the Kings did not play as well as they could have. Also at the end of the game, the wrong player had the ball to shoot and the player who had the ball was not their key shooter. What happened there the Kings don't know but it worked out with Sacramento beating Phoenix in the end.
The Suns have a much better team then they showed in their third game in the first week.
All teams of course do better on the home floor in the NBA than they do on the road. The home court is worth about eight or ten points for a team, but there is no question the Kings do a lot better than at home and fans are with them. Sacramento is where the players live so the Kings, as a whole are going to do a better job playing on the home floor and there is no question its easier to win at home, than it is to win on the road.
The other thing you have to remember for NBA teams and the Kings in particular on that road trip the Kings have been to two other cities to play games. In this case, you have already been on the road in a couple of cities and with travel, are more difficult to win after being on the road for one or two games.
The Kings have been in the playoffs the last few years and playing in post season you want the home court advantage and that is big if you can really pull that off. This year the Kings are not going to have quite the year and the season they have had compared to the last few years.
Coach Rick Adleman is on the final year of his deal with the Kings, which could make things interesting. Adleman has been very successful as a coach, looking at the jobs he did in Golden State and Portland, he has had a tremendous record and he has done a nice job for the Kings.
At the same time, you to have the players that make you win, and he has had the players and Adleman is known as a players coach and we have not heard about any players complaining about Adleman. There are some coaches around where the players do complain about them and having a players coach on Sacramento certainly helps.
Adleman has the Kings playing as a team and that's going to be important so how the Kings are successful this year his how well they'll play together.
Joe Cronin and Ken Gimblin write the Kings report each week and co-host Sportstalk on 1430 KVVN San Jose and 1110 KLIB Sacramento.
