The San Francisco Chronicle went to a glossy page format on all their front sections which came to me as a shock and awe this weekend. The Monday edition is pretty alright to the eye but it comes with a pretty price tag too.
The rag already costs 75 cents daily and now they’re going to want $1.00 a piece for the edition. The Chronicle who called for a financial hardship, laid off a number of staff and reporters, have cut to the bone last year and now are spending whatever dollars they have left over on glossy print and will be noted as the most expensive printed paper in the country.
Here they are producing glossy sections in the Chronicle and are going to have no other choice but to go up on their already expensive rates for subscriptions and advertising. It's a wonder why such recklessness is allowed to exist considering that no one at that paper has learned a thing about financial responsibility. The executives their say it would produce a profit and that advertisers will come back and maybe line up for ad space. Huh?
I think not and everyone in the industry that I have talked to agrees that this is a financial train wreck in the making. Look out for the SF Chron caboose. Physically without touching the paper it looks all the same and you wouldn't know it's glossy until you touch it. When I think of it I just have to say, "big deal" this is going to attract more business?, subscribers? and advertisers? If I was a staff reporter at the paper I would worry about how the Chron is going to subsidize my salary after they take a bath on production costs of making this glossified rag.
Sharks to match up against Preds and Stars: I don't mind saying that the Sharks are doing what their doing right now very well. My first thought with them is winning in the regular season is not all that. What's entirely different is when your not winning when it matters and the Sharks know this and they have to win in the post season.
Were making a big deal out of wins right now and honestly they don't mean jack right now. The regular season is an exercise at setting yourself up to do well when it matters. If you don't do well when it matters.Right now the Sharks have lost only one game and that was in October to Phoenix in a shootout.
The Sharks still have some work to do despite beating the Penguins on Saturday in a 5-0 shutout and nearly losing to Detroit on Thursday 2-1 in a shootout. The Sharks going into Tuesday night's game are only four points up over the L.A. Kings. The team needs to keep believing in themselves in order to keep going right now. It will be better but right now the skeptics are still out.
Jimmie Johnson comes back after wrecking #48: After wrecking his car Johnson needed to come back and get all the points that he can and it took him 115 laps to get back which took over an hour and he ended up in 38th place and he wasn't going to get much further than that.
But because of the points and how they worked and as his team mate Mark Martin said who finished fourth the lead shrunk by 111 out of a possible 161 points. Which means we have drama heading to Phoenix next week.
Johnson finished fourth in total points between the both of them 30 points you translate that into next week you have to race to win the title. Just for showing up and protecting the car with your life.
Kyle Busch almost won three NASCARS: It was a heartbreak hotel for Kyle Busch on Sunday as he had a shot at winning three NASCAR national series. He had already won the Nationwide and Camping World Truck race in Texas and couldn't wrap it up in the NASCAR trifecta when he lead by 232 laps and was still ahead when his No.18 Toyota suddenly started to run low on fuel and he slowed on the 332nd lap and finished 11th.
Warriors drop to the cellar: The Warriors who lost to the Sacramento Kings on Sunday drop to the cellar in the NBA Pacific division are now 1-4 and the Kings improve to 3-4. But whose complaining at this point?
The Kings have a lot of young players right now and are adjusting to new head coach Paul Westphal's way of coaching. The W's have a lot of cry babies. This is historically something that has been going on with the Warriors for decades and that last little loss was what I should say flukey for a lack of a better word.
You have an organization who doesn't have a clue and they have nothing absolutely nothing, I mean come on. If you are a Bay Area basketball fan you should be tired of it.
