The 2009 F1 season came to end last Sunday in Abu Dhabi on a new and novel track. The 3.5-mile track is colorful, fast and furious.
Sebastian Vettel won the inaugural race at Abu Dhabi in the UAE. This was his fourth win of the season and allowed Vettel to finish second in Drivers’ Points Championship.
After the race Vettel commented, “To do it (finish second in points and win the race) with the victory is the best possible result. I am very, very happy. It was a fantastic race.”
Jenson Button – Brawn GP - won the F1 Drivers’ Championship with a total of 95-points. Sebastian Vettel finished second 11-points behind Button. Button’s teammate – Rubens Barrichello – finished P3 in Drivers’ Championship.
In the end, there were no surprises in final standings. Brawn GP – Mercedes won eight races and scored 15 podium finishes. Brawn won the Builders’ Championship.
Brawn GP – MBZ is made up of what was left of Team Honda when the car-maker pulled out of F1 racing. With short time they had to put their team together, winning the Builders’ Championship is very, very impressive.
Team Red Bull won the final three races. Red Bull is hoping that the momentum will carry over to the 2010 season.
