Alex Rodriguez hit the first replay-reviewed home run in World Series history Saturday, and the New York Yankees came from behind to defeat Philadelphia 8-5 in game three of the 2009 Fall Classic at Citizens Bank Park.

With the victory, New York takes a 2-games-to-1 lead in the best-of-seven.

Nick Swisher and Mideki Matsui also homered for the Bronx Bombers, while Jayson Werth hit two home runs and Carlos Ruiz added another for the Phillies.

Andy Pettitte earned his 17th postseason victory for New York, and, after Ruiz’s ninth-inning solo home run, Mariano Rivera came on to pick up a two-out save. Pettitte helped himself with a run-scoring single in the fifth and later scored on Johnny Damon’s two-RBI double.

Rodriguez’s hit to right in the fourth inning was originally ruled a double, but the umpires reversed the call, ruling that the ball hit a camera down the right field line.

Cole Hamels was tagged with the loss for Philadelphia.

Game four is scheduled for Sunday at 5:20 p.m. PST. C.C. Sabathia will start on short rest for the Yankees, while Joe Blanton is on the mound for the Phillies.
