The Zulewski report

It's the 50th anniversary celebration of the old AFL and the old AFL teams are donning their unis. The Raiders didn't have to change because they're wearing the same silver and black uniforms since their days in the 60s and from the looks of their play it looks like they're playing the same way as some of those teams in the 60s.

The Raiders loss last in a crushing defeat in a shutout 38-0 Sunday which was the return to the same old same old which was ugly disgusting football that Raiders head coach Tom Cable should be ashamed to be a part of even though he's been exonerated from his other shameful episode that he endured from training camp.

The Raiders are headed for San Diego and it's complete torture, absolutely complete torture and although the Chargers are that much better it just sometimes makes you scratch your head and wonder how in the world how low are the Raiders going to go?

The announced crowd Sunday was in the neighborhood of 38,000 plus that game was blacked out and it was just unbelievable. This is an epidemic of badness an epidemic. You just can't help yourself anymore.

They're one fifth of the badness of the Lions and the badness there was been going on for half a century. With the Raiders this is not a decade of excellence.

Jimmie Johnson is one of the greats but couldn't win: When you are witnessing the greatness that is Jimmie Johnson you are very quickly running out of things to talk about. You can live with enough platitudes you have delivered more than you share of criticisms of the system which is flat out ridiculous because Johnson's 17 of 46 career wins have come in the months of September to November period.

Right now you just sit down and enjoy the guy who finished second yesterday and it's like the the guy pushing the rock up hill and getting absolutely no where. Denny Hamlin won and the rest of field was losing ground on the guy because Johnson finished right behind him.

Hamlin was the man he's no Jimmie by any means as I was watching it on Sunday my first thought was everytime I saw Johnson go to the point to take the lead and it was like "here we go again" and although he didn't win which was a good thing you just know that he's game to go further ahead that's just a really wild deal.

You just have to sit back and appreciate what you witnessing rather than try to complain about the system.

Bob Griese suspended for taco remark: Former Miami Dolphins quarterback Bob Griese and current ESPN analyst who made the remark about NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya who is from Columbia about being "out having a taco" after broadcast partner Chris Spielman asked where was Montoya, Griese has been suspended from ESPN for one week.

Griese apologized twice for the remark and Montoya who was asked about the Griese remark declined to comment and said he never heard of Griese.

The funny thing about the situation is in the first place the fact that ESPN/ABC is currently airing the remaining NASCAR race for 2009. So they're promoting the upcoming race when Spielman asked Griese during the NCAA Ohio State-Minnesota game "where in the world is Juan Pablo Montoya?" and then that's when Griese said "out having a taco."

The taco reference was stereotypical and offensive to Hispanic or Latins and he was immediately called out on the carpet and there was a blog that I was reading that the fans were up in arms and the Charlotte Observer had an item on it's website and briefly mentioned that Griese had apologized about it. It's a case of dumb jock syndrome for an old guy who doesn't really have a clue.

Skeletons ready to fall out of McGwire's closet: Mark McGwire missed his press conference in St.Louis on Tuesday morning announcing that the Hall of Fame candidate whose been drawing or averaging 25% of that vote has been hired as hitting coach at the St.Louis Cardinals.

The Cardinals had re-hired all of it's coaches except for Hal McRae and McGwire will be taking his old spot. But for McGwire who skipped out on the press conference to avoid questions from the press about the past will not be able to hide for long as he will have to show himself in spring training. You can be rest assured by opening week of the regular season McGwire will be asking himself "why did I come back for all of this?"

If you know anything about McGwire he doesn't have the thickest skin in Major League Baseball and he's been very sarcastic towards the press in interviews in the past and now with the opportunity to ask him about his steroid past and his congressional testimony it will be a wide open door to ask him again. McGwire could very well not last by the All-Star break if he's bombarded about steroid questions much like Barry Bonds was toward the last few years of his career in San Francisco.

Somebody will open to the door of this closet of skeletons and everything will come crashing down. Like it or not McGwire is officially by his taking of the job in the spot light and the old questions are going to come pouring back whether he likes it or not.
