Sportsradio: The Cal Bears 5-2 (2-2) as expected completely dominated the Washington State Cougars 1-6 (0-5) with a 49-17 win at Strawberry Canyon on Saturday. Cal quarterback Kevin Reilly threw for 12-18 for 229 yards and three touchdowns, running back Javhid Best carried 13-159, averaging 12 yards per, and two touchdowns, and Shane Vereen 13-66, avg 5.1, and one touchdown. Needless to say the Bears offense was loaded in getting their second win in the Pac Ten?

What the California Golden Bears did to the Washington State Cougars was expected, as the Cougars are near the bottom of the conference. Riley was admirable, but Best showed the form he had before the beatings at the hands of the University of Oregon and USC in back-to-back weeks in late September and early October. Vereen is a talented running back to go along with Best, and they remind me of the duo of Reggie Bush and Lendale White at USC in 2004 and 2005.

Sportsradio: Stanford's 5-3 (4-2) offense did all the talking in the first half of play on Saturday night at Stanford Stadium with a 33-14 win over the Arizona Sate Sun Devils 4-3 (2-2) 33-14, Cardinal quarterback Andrew Luck threw 17-28 for a whopping 238 yards, averaging 8.4 yards but no touchdowns, running back Toby Gerhart carried for 27-125, avg 4.6 with one touchdown and Cardinal's running back Stepan Taylor, wide out Jamal-Rashad Patterson, and full back Owen Marecic each had a touchdown in the win. You've covered Stanford over the years is this the best offensive unit they have put together in the years you've covered the team?

This Stanford team is good, but they are going to have a tough time to get that all important sixth win that is needed for the Cardinal to become bowl eligible. Following the bye week, the Cardinal host the Oregon Ducks, who have been on fire since their opening 19-8 loss to the Boise State Broncos on the Blue Turf in Boise on September 3, 2009. After facing the Ducks, the Cardinal then head to USC, when they will face the Trojans, who still have revenge on their mind after the Cardinal stopped their 34-game home winning streak back during the 2007 season. Next up for the Cardinal will be the California Golden Bears in the annual "Big Game." The regular season comes to an end when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish invades Stanford Stadium on November 28.

Sportsradio: No doubt U-Conn is still reeling from the stabbing death of corner back Jasper Howard whose jersey #6 hung in his locker space before the game on the road in the visiting locker room at West Virginia. The Huskies 4-3 (1-2) made it a close game losing just by four 28-24 but really wanted to get this game for Howard. U-Conn head coach Randy Edsall said Saturday, "I feel empty, the kids played their hearts out and did what we asked them to do, this is a special group of kids, we've got to take this and learn how to play like this all the time." Edsall and team members are planning to attend Howard's funeral on Monday in Miami. Looking at this story it's got to be a long road for U-Conn almost similar to what the baseball L.A.Angels had to go through when they lost pitcher Nick Adenhart.

Both stories are tragic, and very similar. Randy Edsall and his team should be commended for going out there just seven days after the tragedy. Even though they did not win the game, the Huskies gained the respect of college football fans all over the country.
