World Series Game #3
Sox lead series 3-0

HOUSTON--If you like baseball and lots of it, Tuesday night was your night as the Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox played the longest World Series game in baseball history that lasted 16 innings and went for the length of 5:41, and the game ended at 1:30 AM CDT.

The Astros who held onto to a 4-0 lead going into the fifth inning with the White Sox at bat saw the Sox rally back with five runs to take a 5-4 lead. Joe Crede started the fifth with a homer to deep right, Tadahito Iguchi hit an RBI single, making the score 4-2 Astros. Jermaine Dye at bat punched a single to center to score Scott Podsednik to make it 4-3. The Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski ripped a double to the centerfield wall for two RBIs that scored Dye and Iguchi to take a 5-4 lead.

With the Sox in front in the bottom of the eighth Lane hit a double to left that scored Mark Ensberg to tie up the ball game 5-5.

The ball game then proceeded into baseball history hitting the 14th inning the first time a World Series has entered the 14th inning since October 20th, 1916 when the Boston Red Sox beat the Brooklyn Dodgers in 16 innings 2-1. Red Sox left hander Babe Ruth won that ball game.

With the score tied up 5-5 the White Sox sent second baseman Geoff Blum came to the plate who slugged an Ezequiel Astacio Astros reliever pitch over the right field fence as the Sox took the lead 6-5 in the top of the 14th inning.

Astacio later gave up another run which made it 7-5 for the final score and Astacio went 0.2 innings, two runs, two walks, and gave up one home run to drop his post season record to (0-2 ERA 27.00).

The White Sox Damaso Marte gets the win he closed out the 14th inning and shut down the Astros. Marte went 1.2 innings, walked two, three strike outs, now (2-0 ERA 0.00) for his post season record.

JC and Kenny G's footnotes: Coming up for game four the White Sox will start Freddy Garcia who pitched a complete game his last time out against the L.A. Angels on October 15th for an 8-2 win. Garcia is (2-0 ERA 3.21) for the Astros right hander Brandon Backe will get the call (2-1 ERA 4.91).

First pitch at Minute Maid Field is at 5:33 PM PDT. If the Astros loose this one Wednesday night it's all over. If they can win they can close the gap to 3-2 going back to Chicago with another win on Thursday. For the Sox all it takes is just one win to bring back the Trophy to Chicago for the first time since 1917.

Joe Cronin and Ken Gimblin will have coverage of the 2005 World Series every night and co-host Sportstalk on 1430 KVVN San Jose and 1110 KLIB Sacramento.
