1. #2 Longhorns Stay Perfect
Texas Tech was stampeded 52-17 by Longhorns of Texas. It was Top-10-ranked Texas Tech’s their first loss of the season. Will Tech bounce back from this assault? Yes, they will, because next week they play Baylor. Although Baylor is much improved, they are still Baylor and the Red Raiders should be able to use the game as confidence builder. Vince Young threw for 239 yards and two touchdowns; he also ran one in from 7 yards out.
2. Save One for Later.
Remember when I told the Cal faithful not to jump off the top of the Campanile simply because they lost one game? Well, I think a swan dive will be appropriate when the time comes. Cal, now ranked #24 is, headed up North to face the #15 Oregon Ducks. The mighty Ducks could be the team that pushes the Bears over the edge, but it’s just as likely that they will be toppled, since they are now without their experienced QB, Kellen Clemens, for the remainder of the year. If Cal expects to make an appearance in a major bowl game this season they can’t have more than three losses. If your going to lose, don't lose to Oregon – not with USC and newly-competitive Stanford still ahead.
3. Boise State . . . . What is the big deal?
We could talk about the success of Boise State, but why. They had a chance to make a statement earlier this year when they played the University of Georgia. Boise State got manhandled by the Bulldogs, and the fact that they beat a Utah team that is no longer newsworthy is not impressive in the least. If non-BCS teams want anyone to take them seriously then they have to win those big non-conference games. Just because Boise State is beating up on everyone in the WAC only means something in the WAC. Beat someone in the SEC and everyone takes notice.
