Cardinals finish off Brewers for 18th NL pennant

Milwaukee – With a 12-6 rout of the rival Brewers at Miller Park, St. Louis completed a six-game dismissal of Milwaukee in the National League Championship Series on Sunday night and advanced to the World Series to face the Texas Rangers beginning Wednesday in St. Louis.

David Freese hit one of the three home runs for the Cardinals in route to being named NLCS MVP. The St. Louis native hit .500 with two home runs and six RBIs in helping the Cardinals win their 18th NL pennant in franchise history.

A team that was 10 1/2 games out of the NL Wild Card in late August, a team that watched these very Brewers run away and hide from them in the NL Central race, is the last team standing in the league. The Cardinals improved to 30-13 since Aug. 24.

Wednesday’s Game 1 starters are scheduled to be C.J. Wilson for Texas and Chris Carpenter for St. Louis.
