In the midst of an ongoing crisis and world chaos the most important thing to the National Football League and the players is mo money ! Its billionaires versus millionaires. All the talk is sabotaging the 2010 season. I do believe the players have legitimate complaints about the NFL and the owners not bargaining in good faith. Yet the NFL and the players need a major reality check !
The NFL and the owners have untaken world wide domination. Theres the NFL.Network, regular season games in foreign countries and generally monopolistic business practices. The players are saying mo money for you means mo money for us ! Where this leaves the fans is not being considered by either of the parties. Fans with modest paychecks and families are already priced out of the picture.
What it looks like to the Scary one is that the NFL and the owners want only the fat wallets to be able to afford to see games in person. The rest of the folks will have to watch on cable television. Its all about luxury boxes , rich techies going to games with laptops, Iphones and the blue tooth stuck in their ears and nobody really there to watch football. The assumption is that professional football American style is not subject to such small matters as a worldwide economic recession.
The NFL , the team owners and the players are so busy investing their money they have no time to follow current events. I believe the sport's entertainment market is already oversaturated. The trend is to build huge new sports stadiums that double as shopping malls ! Anyone with brains knows that there is more joe six pack fans out there than the casual etite rich fans, who can easily switch to any other diversion at a moments notice.
I was going to explore the technical details of the lockout issue but chose instead to go with my gut feelings. When you break it all down Football is just not the most important thing ! Folks in the USA are losing their houses, jobs and whole way of life. The arrogance of the NFL and the players to assume that entertainment will always trump everything else ! The future is empty sport's palaces and bankruptcies.
