Cards take first game 5-3.
Cards lead series 1-0-Game 1 NLCS

The St.LouisCardinals showed why they had the best record in the Majors this past season after taking five days off after knocking out the Padres and turning around and hosted their first game since playing October 8th.

The Cardinals with a 5-3 Game one win over the Houston Astros we're thrilled with the Game one win. Looking back at the Cards last game in which they beat the Padres to advance to the N.L. Championship they chanted around star outfielder Reggie Sanders over and over, "MVP MVP". The Cards outfielder had a terrific series against San Diego with 10 RBIs and a grand slam. In game one he started out on the right foot again with a first inning two run homer to deep left to get the Cards on the board first with a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning Chris Carpenter saced to Astro pitcher Andy Pettitte who fired to first for the sac and Mark Grudzielanek scored from third base to make it 3-0.

In the fifth the Cards picked up the final two more runs for their offensive total when David Eckstein singled to right center and Nunez came into score making it 4-0. Later Albert Pujois singled to right center and Eckstein scored to make it 5-0. The Astros would score three runs but came up short in the end loosing by two runs.

Cards pitching:Chris Carpenter (1-0 ERA 2.25) picked up his first post season decision pitching eight innings, giving up five hits, two runs, three walks, three strike outs and a homer.

Andy Pettitte for Houston who started pitched six innings, for eight hits, five runs, two walks, and two strikeouts.

JC and Kenny G's footnotes: Game 2 is slated for Thursday night at Busch Stadium as Roy Oswalt will start for Houston and Mark Mulder gets the call for the Cardinals. First pitch is at 5:05PM PDT.

White Sox tie series at 1-1.
Series tied 1-1-ALCS Game #2

At U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago the White Sox evened up the series with a one run victory over the L.A. Angels 2-1 on Wednesday night in game 2 of the ALCS. The White Sox Jermaine Dye who went 1-4 at the plate contributed in grounded to Angel shortstop Orlando Cabrera to score Scott Podsednik from third base to make it 1-0 Sox.

The Angels came right back in the fifth inning when Robb Quinlan the Angels third baseman belted a homer to deep left to tie up the ball game 1-1. The Sox came right back when third baseman Joe Crede ripped a double to deep left for an RBI to knock in pinch runner Pablo Ozuna which proved to be the game winning run for a 2-1 score.

The Angels Jarrod Washburn started the game but was lifted by reliever Kelvim Escobar who got the loss for giving up the RBI double to Ozuna which determined the Game out come.

The White Sox starter Mark Buehrle got the win going the distance pitching nine innings, surrendering five hits, a run, four strike outs, and a home run.

JC and Kenny G's footnotes: Joe Garland will be the White Sox starter on Friday night against the Angels John Lackey at Edison Field in Anaheim. The first pitch is slated for 5:05PM PDT.

For Game three of the ALCS the Angels have put in a lot of frequent miles previous to the series and during. On Sunday night the Sox played in New York and lost forcing a game five in Los Angeles which took them all night to arrive at LAX at 5:00AM PDT. The Angels who won game five over the Yankees then had to travel right after Monday Night's game to Chicago for game one on Tuesday Night. After some rest on Monday Night they played to a 2-1 loss and will travel yet again to Los Angeles for game # 3 on Friday night.

Thursday off other than taking some batting practice at Edison Field on Thursday will be rest that the Angels will welcome.
