Both Los Angeles teams were winners along with Colorado in Thursday’s major league divisional playoff series. The Angels downed Boston 5-0 in the first game of their American League series and the Dodgers came from behind to clip St. Louis 3-2, taking a commanding 2-games-to-0 lead in their National League best-of-five set.

The Dodgers can close out their series with a win Saturday in St. Louis.

Colorado, meanwhile, squared its series with Philadelphia by taking a 5-4 win over the Phillies.

While the Dodgers and Cardinals take Friday off, the other NL series between Philadelphia and Colorado resumes Friday in Denver. In the AL, Minnesota visits the Yankees for game two of their divisional series in New York, and the Red Sox look to try and square their series with the Angels.

Dodgers 3, Cardinals 2

LA took advantage of Matt Holliday’s second error of the season in right field and used that miscue to spark a game-winning rally in the bottom of the ninth. After Holliday mishandled a line drive by James Loney, All-Star closer Ryan Franklin walked Casey Blake, who was replaced by pinch-runner Juan Pierre. A passed ball moved the runners up, and Russell Martin walked to load the bases.

A single by ex-Cardinal Ronnie Belliard scored Pierre, and pinch-hitter Mark Loretta sent a soft single to center, scoring Blake with the game-winning run.

Holliday homered earlier in the game for St. Louis.

Angels 5, Red Sox 0

Outfielder Torii Hunter blew this game open with a three-run homer in the fifth, as the Angels went on to blank Boston behind a strong start from John Lackey, who scattered four hits over seven and one-third innings. Kenny Morales added an RBI single and Bobby Abreu drew four walks for the Halos.

Rockies 5, Phillies 4

Yorvit Torrealba slammed a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning, and Huston Street picked up the win in relief for the Rockies. Colorado had a sacrifice fliy from Todd Helton and two sac flies from Dexter Fowler. Jayson Werth hit a solo homer for Philadelphia in the bottom of the eighth before Street nailed down the win.
