OAKLAND--ESPN announced on Thursday that the Rowdy Friends party that opens up each Monday Night Football telecast has come to an official end as country-rock singer Hank Williams was fired for saying during a Fox TV interview that President Obama was like Hitler when he golfed with House Speaker John Boehner.

ESPN issued a statement that Williams and the network after 23 years starting in 1989 have parted ways as of Thursday, "we decided to part ways with Hank Williams Jr. We appreciate his contributions over the past years, the success of Monday Night Football has always been about the games and that will continue"

Williams said this was a clear infringment on his free speech rights, "after reading 100's of emails I have made my decision by pulling my opening on October 3rd, you (ESPN) stepped on the toes of the first amendement freedom of speech, so therefore me, my song, and all my rowdy friends are out of here. It's been a great run."

Williams said he was offended that any high government officials would be on the golf course while there are families starving for food and jobs and Obama and Boehner would be hitting the links during an economic time like this, "the thought of the leaders of both parties jukin and high fiven on a golf course while so many families are struggling to get by made me boil over and make a dumb statement. I'm very sorry if I offended anyone." said Williams.
