1. Michelle, Stanford (3-2, 2-1) had quarterback Anthony Kimball carry for 157 yards and two touchdowns, Tavita Pritchard threw for 222 yards, 16 completions, three touchdowns, in Stanford's 35-28 win over Washington. Is it still too early to say Jim Harbaugh has turned this program around yet?
Yes, it is still too early. They played the University of Washington, the redheaded stepchild of the Pac-10. He is moving the team into the right direction, but quit being in such a hurry for a national championship. Let's just hope for a .500 plus season and a bowl birth.
2. Cal whupped on the Colorado State Rams 42-7 Saturday night but the big news is Javhid Best had his elbow dislocated on the turf at Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Best had carried 11 times for 85 yards. Considering the size of the score are you surprised Cal's rushers never got in the end zone and how much will Cal depend on Best recovering from his injury?
If you have been to or seen any of Cal's games this season you will know that they need Javhid Best. I don't see Cal having a full arsenal of weapons to go to, and to loose one so valuable to the team is a big hit. Coach Tedford always finds a way to make lemons into Cal Aid, so let's see what happens next.
3. The Oklahoma Sooners made #1 in the AP Polls. Georgia's 41-30 with the Crimson Tide moves them to #2. Do you think the Sooners can break away and get the distance on the #1 position?
No, they still haven't gotten deep into their conference schedule. They have to play Texas and Texas Tech, and one of the Kansas teams. They got a long way to go and no one know what will be the out come of this crazy trip.
Final Thoughts:
1. RIP to actor/formula one racecar driver Paul Newman. Newman one of the great American actors who gave us classic sports movies like the Hustler and Slapshot will be missed.
2. Montae Ellis hurts his ankle on a moped. At least Kellen Winslow broke his leg on a motorcycle.
3. The Raiders are close to putting all the pieces together. They have a running game, a defensive line, but they need a better offensive line and some receivers. So leave Lane Kiffin alone and let him do his job. Have you ever tried to do your job and the boss kept threatening to fire you? The more Al Davis tries to micro manage the Raiders, the more he hurts the team. The players have not acted like they don't have confidence in Kiffin . . . so let the guy do his job.
4. Could someone tell ESPN that the "World Series of Poker" is not a sport. If you can smoke and drink beer while playing it is not a sport. Look at John Daly.
