Johnson's win and Lagano's tumble at Dover: Jimmy Johnson was the man at the Dover Raceway on Sunday let's clarify that right now there isn't much noise made about the guy since the regular season has been in progress but now that the chase is on and the guy has won three straight championships he had to figure he was going to somehow find a way to win at least one Chase race.
I honestly didn't think it was going to be this early, did you know from the fact way file the useless research department that I called fact boy we know that in the five years at the Chase the Dover winner can not go onto win the title.
Because Johnson was so good Sunday that is going to change this year and I'm marking it down right now. Johnson is going to win the title he may not do it right away, he may not pull it off or pass the field like he has or like he did in the past year but he is going to win the title. The four peat is going to happen.
Langano barrell rolls over Dover: Joey Langano was unbelievable with his barrell rolls on Sunday at Dover and survived, my golly! The one thing that was different that was thoroughly annoying about that on the telecast there was no emotion in the announcers voices.
It's maybe an excuse to gather thoughts but there was a lot of silence rolling. We had to have Tim Brewer announce the crash as it was happening in the first place and maybe it's part of the broadcast location but for crying out loud but there was no description at all and no passion in the voices describing what was happening, nothing.
That was a whoa! moment in auto sports, that's a "oh my gosh moment" that's a "look whats happening moment" and they just went through it and it was uninspired and the direction of the broadcast description was not there and matter of fact annoying because there should have been some description as to what was happening? NASCAR is wondering why the television ratings are down? See their broadcast for an example.
NHL in TV trouble with Versus and Direct TV conflict: As of Monday morning there is still a message on the Versus screen that says "for viewers who want to dial 603 Versus is still off the air."
That's about 14 million of your viewing public which can not watch hockey which opens this week which you basically just told to take a flying leap over money and that turn has reduced the potential audience for the broadcast of the NHL on Versus that's wrong.
It's not going to bring a whole lot of revenue in if you don't have the audience. There is a lot of complaints and I'm hearing about Versus is a informercial network.
Other than the NHL you do have Mountain West Football broadcasts which not a bad thing but you have that you have the IRL, you have the Tour de France which is always an excellent broadcast.
You have cycling shows, and the United Football League when that gets started for the short season. There are issues here and the NHL has to re-evaluate the contract.
Obama lends support to Chicago for the 2016 Olympics: There is no doubt that President Barack Obama has a lot of passion for getting the Olympics to Chicago in 2016 and I've got to give him that.
I kind of wonder why my President is trying to concern himself with that? It's a bit of a head scratcher. On the problem scale I'm right down the middle with it, it's a problem in some aspects but on the other hand it's a solid deal amongst others.
When was the last Olympics in the United States? It was Salt Lake City in 2002 and the Summer of 96 in Atlanta, were due for another one and the President is making the case in a good way I hope he succeeds.
MLB Playoffs: Yankees and Red Sox, the Yankees have clinched the east but what if the Red Sox had clinched the east? I'm going to go with what the research department figures it out and kick into high gear and I have the media whipping boys doing the research for me here at the newspaper as we speak but let's figure out all the insanity in the baseball hunt right now.
The Yankees have won the east, the Sox are on the verge of a Wild Card trip, but not officially yet, but they have a magic number of one and with a loss by the Rangers in Anaheim it should be all over. One day late but not necessarily a dollar short.
It would have been whacky for the Red Sox to have won the Wild Card and the Yankees to win the East when they played each other and one team backed into the playoffs on the same day and had both teams celebrating on the field and in both the clubhouses with champagne flowing. The same could have been said when the Cardinals won the Central as they backed in after losing to the Rockies if the Rockies had clinched the Wild Card on Sunday.
The Rockies magic number has been reduced as of Monday to five over the Braves and that is Major League scary and Colorado was off on Monday but the Bravos are hosting the Marlins on Monday night. That makes things interesting especially with Braves manager Bobby Cox knowing that he has one more year in the dugout and the Braves have won six straight.
Look out it's not over yet and the closest thing to being over is that A.L. Wild Card other than the National League the Rockies are feeling a little bit of heat and they have to keep going and the Rocks are hosting the Brewers starting Tuesday night.
